Ending Fossil Fuel Subsidies
Oil and gas companies already post record profits. The federal government still hands them $35 billion a year anyway, more than double what it gave the industry in 2017, and Congress added another $4 billion in new giveaways last year alone, in the same bill that cut tax credits for wind and solar.
These aren't standard business deductions. They're industry-specific carve-outs: letting oil and gas companies deduct a fixed percentage of revenue as a cost regardless of what they actually spent, letting them structure as tax-exempt partnerships in a way renewable energy companies aren't allowed to, and letting them write off drilling costs immediately instead of over time. None of this makes energy cheaper for Michigan families. It makes record profits larger.
Lydia supports ending federal fossil fuel subsidies and redirecting that money toward priorities that actually serve Michiganders, not shareholders.
