Protecting the Right to Vote
Citizenship is already required to vote in federal elections, and it's already enforced. The government does not need new power to take a legal citizen's vote away in the name of stopping a problem that barely exists. The Voting Rights Act has also been weakened by the Supreme Court three times in the last thirteen years, most recently in 2026, making it nearly impossible to sue over discriminatory voting laws under the Act's core enforcement provision.
As Senator, Lydia will:
- Oppose any legislation that conditions the right to vote on producing documentation most legal citizens don't have on hand, rather than the citizenship attestation already required by law
- Cosponsor and push to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, restoring federal preclearance for states and localities with a recent record of voting rights violations
- Oppose any voter ID requirement that fails to account for legal name or gender-marker changes, so a documentation mismatch unrelated to eligibility can't be used to turn away a legal citizen
Policies on this page are living documents. Lydia updates them as research, legislation, and community input evolve. If something here should be sharper, more accurate, or missing entirely, tell her campaign.
