Lydia will unchain our freedoms by staunchly upholding the U.S. Constitution as the law of the land, recognizing that our constitutional republic, with its democratic elements, is rooted in this sacred document. The Constitution guarantees our unalienable rights, and Lydia will ensure it remains the bedrock of our freedoms. She’ll ensure that federal laws align with its principles, protecting the rights of all Michiganders to free speech, equal protection, and due process. As Senator, Lydia will defend our republic against any efforts to undermine its foundational values, ensuring justice and liberty for all.

Restoring Congress's War Power

The Constitution gives the power to declare war to Congress, not the President. Lydia will vote for binding resolutions to end unauthorized hostilities, oppose treating old AUMFs as permanent justification for new conflicts, and push Congress to reclaim its constitutional role regardless of who holds the presidency.

Checking Executive Power: Transparency and Accountability

Government power that operates in secret cannot be held accountable. Lydia will restore protections for inspectors general and ethics officials, codify non-defundable oversight offices, and expand whistleblower protections beyond simple firing.

End Citizens United

Unchain Michigan’s democracy by ending Citizens United and restoring power to the people.

Protecting the Right to Vote

Citizenship is already required and enforced to vote. Lydia will oppose new documentation requirements most citizens don't have on hand, restore federal preclearance through the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and oppose voter ID rules that turn away legal citizens over a name or gender-marker mismatch.

Ending Reckless Foreign Wars

War should be a last resort, not a default tool of foreign policy. Lydia will oppose open-ended military commitments without a clear objective or exit plan, redirect wasted conflict spending to domestic priorities, and restore real diplomacy as the first response, not a box to check before military action already planned.

Ending U.S. Complicity in Gaza

Independent UN experts, genocide scholars, and human rights organizations, including Israeli ones, have concluded Israel has committed genocidal acts in Gaza. Lydia would vote against continued military aid until compliance is independently verified, and will push to enforce existing human rights law, force a real congressional vote on arms sales, and oppose merging U.S. and Israeli military supply chains.

Human Control Over Lethal Force

No autonomous system should decide to kill without a human who answers for it. Lydia will require human authorization for AI-directed lethal force in every DoD contract and stop agencies from retaliating against contractors who refuse to remove those safeguards.

Unchain opportunity with a new vision for diversity, equity, and inclusion for all Michiganders.

Supporting Ranked Choice Voting

Ranked choice voting lets voters rank candidates instead of picking just one, ending the spoiler effect. Maine and Alaska already use it for federal elections, but Michigan law blocks it even in the five cities that voted for it locally. Lydia opposes any national-level bill to ban ranked choice voting, leaving that choice to states and voters.
