Unchaining the Right to Strike

Lydia will unchain Michigan workers by removing the federal government's own tools for crushing strikes. Federal law lets the President seek a court injunction to force strikers back to work, and criminalizes entire categories of peaceful strikes, secondary boycotts, sympathy strikes, solidarity actions, not because they're violent, but because they're effective. Lydia will push to repeal the injunction power and restore the right to secondary and sympathy strikes.

Unemployment insurance eligibility for strikers is a state issue, and most states, including many workers don't realize this until they need it, disqualify strikers, giving employers a tool to starve workers back to the table instead of negotiating. Lydia will push for federal incentives, the same tool Congress has used before to encourage states to raise the drinking age or seatbelt laws, to encourage every state to treat striking workers the same as any other unemployed worker during a labor dispute. Government shouldn't be a weapon employers get to borrow, at any level.
